TAPE-IN EXTENSIONS

Are you curious about tape-in hair extensions? You might be wondering: What type of extensions do you offer? How long do they last? How do I care for them? Below, you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions to help you make an informed decision about enhancing your hair with tape-in extensions.

FAQ’S

What type of hair extensions do you offer?

Tape-in hair extensions are a fantastic option if you're looking for added volume, length, or just a little extra fullness.

Here’s how they work: the extensions come in small wefts with medical-grade adhesive tape on one side. During the application, I’ll place your natural hair between two wefts—almost like a sandwich—and secure them close to the scalp.

These extensions are lightweight, lay flat, and blend seamlessly with your hair, making them one of the most natural-looking options. They’re versatile and can be customized to give you just the right amount of volume, length, or both, depending on your goals. Plus, they’re easy to maintain and can be reused with proper care.

How long do the extensions last?

Tape-in extensions typically last 8 to 10 weeks, depending on your hair growth and how well they are cared for. With proper maintenance, the same set of extensions can be reused 2 to 4 times, depending on the level of wear and tear.

How do I remove them?

To remove the extensions, I use a gentle solvent applied to the new hair growth and the adhesive tabs. The solvent is allowed to work for a moment, making it easy to separate the tabs without damage. The removal process is quick and usually takes 30 minutes or less.

What hair products can be used in the hair?

You can use most hair products as long as they are not applied near the scalp or the adhesive tabs. Products that get too close to the tabs can weaken the adhesive, causing the extensions to slip out. Avoid heavy conditioners and instead apply products from the mid-shaft to the ends of your hair. You can shampoo as normal, gently massaging the scalp, and ensure all shampoo is thoroughly rinsed out.

Can I swim, exercise or go in the sauna?

Yes, you can! Before swimming, apply conditioner from the mid-shaft to the ends to protect the extensions from absorbing harmful elements like chlorine. To minimize tangles during exercise, tie your hair into a ponytail and brush before and after workouts or sauna use. Always wash your hair after exercising to remove sweat and dirt.

Can roots be retouched, while the extensions are in the hair?

Yes, roots can be retouched, keeping in mind to stay away from the tabs. It is recommended that roots be done before application of extensions. If roots need to be retouched in between extension services and there is enough new growth to keep the color off the tabs, I suggest doing a partial retouch along the hair line.

Can I color it?

Tape-in extensions come in over 50 colors that can be blended into thousands of shades to match your hair. If further customization is needed, you can deposit color up to two shades darker. However, lightening the extensions is not recommended, as it can compromise the hair’s integrity.

Can I straighten, curl or blow-dry the hair?

Yes, you can straighten, curl, or blow-dry tape-in extensions. When blow-drying, avoid concentrating heat directly on the scalp or tabs, as this can make the adhesive tacky and affect the hold.

What lengths are available?

10-12” 14-16” 18-20” 22-24”

How many packs does it take to do a full head?

The number of packs needed depends on your hair’s density and the desired result:

  • Fine hair: Typically 2 (20-piece) packs.

  • Average density: About 3 (20-piece) packs.

  • Thicker or shorter hair: May require 4 (20-piece) packs.

Each pack contains 20 pieces, which create 10 “sandwiches” when applied.

CLIENT DO’S AND DONT’S

DO wait 24-48 hours after application before washing.

DO use a WET BRUSH to properly detangle hair and brush daily. Brush starting at the ends working your way up in a downward motion. Brush before shampooing to keep hair from matting.

DO use a good leave in conditioner from middle of hair to ends, keeping away from the tabs.

DO wear your hair in a pony or loose braid when exercising, swimming, and sleeping.

DO have a licensed professional remove and reapply your extensions.

DON’T go to bed with your hair wet.

DON’T color your hair at home.

DON’T remove your extensions yourself.

DON’T use products containing oils or silicones near the tabs, as these can weaken the adhesive.
